Putting a door in a garage wall.
Caulk underneath the spots where the bottom of the jamb and brick moulding will be.
If you are going to install a door into the frame take into account the exact dimensions of the door when you make your measurements on the wall.
Before you make your first cut double check the measurements.
Check the fit before installing a new door and enlarge the opening as necessary.
Items you will need 36 inch pre hung entry door 2 2 x 4 x 81 inch studs 2 2 x 4 x 41 inch studs door casing electric miter saw skill saw jig saw screw gun hammer level measuring tape pencil carpenter s framing square door shims 2 inch deck screws 8d finish nails nail set wood putty.
Move the stud finder around until you find the stud in the wall that is nearest to the garage door.
Mark this spot with a pencil and then repeat this process on the wall to the left of the garage door.
Add another set of marks across the top of the frame to represent a steel lintel that will support the load above the door.
The opening should be two inches wider than the door frame and about an inch taller in height.
Determine how tall and how wide you want the doorway to be.
Once you are satisfied with the fit of the door remove it and apply several thick beads of silicone caulk to the bottom.
Use chalk to mark the areas where you want to cut through the brick.
Run a stud finder across the wall perpendicular to the garage door on the right.
However the door frame should cover up any inperfections.
